Former Teacher and Principal Passes

Oakdale School has lost an alumnus and former teacher/principal.  Sam Hoskins,
Class of 1963, passed away Sunday, November 4, after battling oral cancer for
more than four years.  Before beginning his teaching career, Mr. Hoskins was a
commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam where he suffered
severe wounds.  He taught at Oakdale during the 1971-72 school year and
returned to Oakdale School for good at the beginning of the 1979-80 school year.

During his tenure at Oakdale School, Mr. Hoskins taught elementary classes, was
over the Title 1 Reading Lab, served as assistant principal, and served as
principal.  He was very involved in all aspects of school life and was an excellent
role model for students.  Mr. Hoskins had a wonderful rapport with the faculty, the
staff, and the student body.

Mr. Hoskins is survived by his wife Jeanette (a former Oakdale teacher), son and
daughter-in-law John and Sabrina, godson Dru Miller, and brother Dr. William
Hoskins.

Mr. Hoskins will be missed by all who knew him.
